My First Ever Track Day!!!!

Video to come.
Gearing is not suited to the track, but lots of fun.
First time ever, but hit 160kmh on the straight eventually.
Front left tyre took a hammering.

Nice work.

Wakefield will always punish the left front.

Great to see another E46 M3 out on track. Look up the BMW NSW Drivers Club for future events too Garry. We're at Wakefield, Marulan and Winton each year.

New Diff is In

Pic of old diff:

New 4.1 diff has raised rpm by about 300 rpm at 100 km/h.

Big difference in ‘punch’ under accel.

35% lock up both ways is interesting when tight reverse turning.

More Minor Fixes

Big recommendation for Brisbane Motor Works who did my diff exchange.
They looked over the car and gave me a list of problems.
Replaced left front strut today that was leaking. Had oem spare.
Spring was clocked wrong on rhs. Easy fix when you have shorter springs as you can manhandle them into place when on the hoist.
They picked up an oil leak. Was me overfilling power steering.
Pointed out that whoever did the rear subframe reinforcement should have used spacers to reduce stress where no reinforcement was needed. They only use Turner kits.
Pointed out a stress crack in the exhaust pipe that I will weld up.
Pointed out cracked left fog light. Got hit by a lot of gravel on trip. Bloody trucks.
I need to replace rear upper shock mounts.

Planning on a track day with instructor mid June.

6 Pot Calipers.

6 pots from ecs on doorstep... Now on car!
Had to bend backing plate in on the top and bottom, and also a bit more at one of the plate mounts.
My 18in rims will need a spacer to fit. 19in csl rims are perfect fit. Not sure about std 19in M3 rims.
last pic is of 18in rim to show its offset (I hope).
Colour match is VERY close to Phoenix Yellow.
More to come as I have carbon fibre wings for bottom of front bumper and also rear shocks to replace.

Caliper Test Fit

986 calipers need to have the supplied spacers between the adaptor and the car. Easier to mount adaptor first. Rotors are under the 18.4mm minimum, so need new ones.

Started Mounting Brakes

Will put labels and clear coat later.
Found that the new hose does not have the metal ring to go on the middle-mount. First grommet I found in my stash was perfect. Cut slot and took mid-mount off to sand blast and paint black.

All Done bar the Label

Joined the wear detectors so Porsche works with BMW. 2 wires to 2 wires.
Drilled holes in the bottom of the hose’s mid-mounts so I could add on zip ties for insurance. The ring around the hose is meant to be metal so the wedge can clamp on.

Enormous increase in pedal feel and less travel.

Needs a Spacer

Needs 5mm minimum spacer to fit 18" rims on top of the 6 pots.

Update. Wobble at speed. Needs hub centric spacer. Minimum I have found is 10mm. Just ordered some. Thinking of attaching them to the wheels by drilling and tapping.

10mm Centric Spacers Do Not Fit

Tested on my M3 and also a 318i rear end.
About 13mm needed to bottom out on both these hubs.
Only get 10mm on these ones.
Talking with eBay vendor to check if 15mm ones will fit OK.
Wanted for track days.
Update: Seller disowns that they do not fit. Be careful and ensure that the allowance for the hub boss is about 13mm.
