Any Electricians Here?

So my genius painter took off my old thermostat while painting the walls and didn't label any of the wires. I was planning on installing a Nest anyway but I have 3 red wires and 1 black wire. I'm guessing that the black wire is the power wire but I'm not sure where the 3 red wires should go. From the manual (https://s3.amazonaws.com/support-ass...tion_Guide.pdf), I've gathered that one should go into W1 (Heating), one into Y1 (Cooling), and one should be G (Fan). Can I just plug one red wire into each of those or is there another way to test where they should go?

Thanks in advance!

Go to your furnace and find out which wire is which. They will be connected to labelled ports on that side. You'll need a multimeter to find out what is what.
