I purchased ByteTuner a few months ago and have been using it since. Have succesfully coded out the secondary air pump and secondary cats with catless header. I've also been playing with the VANOS tables a bit but haven't finished optimizing for the ZHP cams.

I didn't really know what it was going to be like so it was a bit overwhelming at first. You have access to all of the parameters in the factory DME that BMW was using for development and production. There are single digits, up to large tables. They have short descriptions for each parameter to help you understand what it is doing. Even though parameter names are different for MS43 and MS45, the large tuning thread has been a great help to me.

Instead of having to ship out my DME to get an EU tune for the headers and SAP delete, I figured I would spend a bit more money and have way more capability in the future.

Also, customer service has been great so far. Jeff is very receptive to emails when I have run into issues with flashing (user error) or for general help. If you have specific questions, you could contact him directly and I'm sure he would get back to you quickly.

Personally I wrote my own application to read/write to the MS45.1. I will probably release that open source in the near future.

All I want is launch control and the ability to code out o2s for catless headers

IIRC I'm not sure how launch control is possible on MS45.1. It probably is - just not the same way you do it with MS43, we already tried it and it doesn't work.

deleting DTCs is easy. I can post a guide when the flash app is out.

Well if/when I do release anything, you guys will have to figure out mapping (or better yet, let hassmaschine do it for you via bimmerlabs).

I'm also debating whether or not I should leave program writes in. That can definitely render the DME unbootable if you're not careful.

As far as launch control... do you have any idea how the SMG does it? If most of that is DME side, I wonder if we can invoke that somehow.

Here are two screenshots of bytetuner. For the price, it is a very nice package that can read, write, and change parameters. Once the bin file is fully downloaded (~40 mins for MS45.1) flashing an updated file takes about 45 seconds.

40 minutes.. why bother. Just download the stock tune off the internet.

I've been busy and haven't responded to Terra's emails yet.. but I will.

Bytetuner uses a specific file type .dme2. There is a library of stock tunes in this file type, but if you have a modified flash file, you have to pull it from the dme with Bytetuner to create this file.

I can do a full read in under 15 minutes

Not super necessary since stock files are readily available, but still beats 40 minutes.

Hmm. Is there a reason why MS45.1 isn't able to and MS43 is? I'm assuming I'd have to install an aftermarket WOT box then? I guess I won't bother because I don't NEED it

No, the code is just different so the parameters work in different ways. If you use the same settings from MS43 for launch control it won't work. There may be another way to do it, and probably is, but I don't know it. I don't own an E46 either so it's not like I can test it (although it might be similar to MSV70).

Probably encrypted so you have to use their software.

Yeah, no doubt. I didn't mind paying $250 for a package that works well and is currently the only solution that can do what it does.

Hassmaschine,

How is the reader coming along? Will it do MS45.0?

MS43 is driver wish based throttle control whereas MS45 is torque based throttle control. If you write anykind of launch control sequence into the dme, the torque controller will simply override you setpoints.
