My first shotgun: Modification question

Randomly went out and got a Benelli Nova to shoot clay. I'm seeing that due to hunting regulations (possibly a NY thing) there is a stopper in the magazine tube that limits the capacity to 2 shells (2+1 max capacity).

I see that removing the stopper is super easy and I will never go hunting. Is there any downside to removing that stopper?

Also, prior to first use should I be lubing this thing up as much as an AR? I don't think a pump action 12 gauge really "runs wet".

Call it a plug. If it does not go hunting no need for a plug. Before shooting take it down and clean it real good. I've always went on the lighter side of lubricants I don't like my stuff dripping including ar

Thank you! Plug was indeed the word I was searching for.

New shotguns have packing grease in them, especially with Benellis which are shipped from overseas. Clean the gun out well with solvent and degreaser, then relube. Benelli includes a synthetic lube with their guns which is actually pretty good lubricant. Put a small amount on the contact points where metal meets metal in receiver and slide and you will be fine.
