SCTS Racing Spec e46 build thread

Hi All -

After all the other cars we've built (e46 M3, 135i, e90 M3 and most recently an M4), we're finally going to try building a Spec e46. So to start with, we found this donor car. A 2002 Green Gray 330Ci 5-Speed Coupe with 180k miles that we found on CraigsList.

Lots of pics taken by Ralph here:

Out with the new (M4) and in with the old

With over 180k miles on this car, I suspect we'll be doing a lot of refurb. on the car to make it track worthy

But Ralph wanted it to at least see a track to get an idea what's in store for it.

Over 180k miles and guess what? The Service Engine light is on - gee, what a shock (how many e46's start having issues passing smog?). But it would be good to start with a clean slate before we start making changes to the car that might cause the light to come on.

Did a smoke check on the car (feed smoke into the intake) to look for leaks in the air system.

And a good thing we did. It was leaking air at the DISA valve. Taking out the old DISA, it had a spring that is pretty much shot and a flap pin that was ready to drop into the engine. Also changed the purge valve, air valve and cam position sensor A.

Got a used oil pan from BimmerMerchant to be able to put a baffle kit in it a

And got a donated set of old tires to be able to do test fitting once we get some wheels
