Yeah just in the time I've been looking there have been 3 japanrot wagons in California alone that have all sold for under 3k that I was like a half a day slow on contacting.

Keep at it! You'll find one eventually.

Agreed. The guy has too much sentimental attachment to that car, or something. It is a buyers market on these cars, right now.

You are too nice -- I prefer to go with "delusional"

There was a really nice red/beige one in texas that he was asking $7500 or something crazy. He didn't like my "realistic" offer, so maybe he found another sucker, i mean buyer, for it. I would make your offer to him and if he doesn't come down to your price, let it sit. I don't like gray interior, so i would let it go if i was you. I am waiting for the right color combo for myself, and if it comes up, i will get it, but i have enough cars to drive that i can be picky ... it is a buyers market on these cars. The E91's are not much more $$ with a better engine, more room, but they also weigh more... good luck!

And no dipstick, no spare tire, etc. I'm not saying e9x cars are bad, but they aren't as enthusiast friendly, IMO.

agreed. while it's definitely not built as well as the E46, it's not terrible. it does handle well and the brakes are good. interior is a step back from the E46 though.

i agree fully with you guys, but the E91s are easier to find in good condition...

Getting a trans rebuilt is about 3k-3.5k... so if you pay any more than $500 you are way upside down.
Scrap value is $350.
Manual swap is about 950 if you do the labor yourself and can find a beat up donor for cheap.

I drove an '04 with the SMG when I was shopping for mine. That transmission is pretty terrible.

Right. I think due to the transmission (neither fish nor fowl, right?), wherever that auction ends up it's not going to be a reliable data point.

that BaT car should have nicer wheels, not the base wheels, as it seems to have the sport steering wheel and seats... the colors are aweful for me, but that is just my opinion ... I am surprised that BaT even took that car on their site...

Those are not base wheels. Base wheels are 16" Style 45s; those are 17" Style 44s. Not the flashiest wheels but still handsome in a quiet, understated way.

The car presents very nicely (with the exception of the tint, which I'm no fan of).

did my whole swap for:

Valeo SMF (new, but open box) $200
Swap parts (all but gearbox) $200
Gearbox with 90 day warranty $150.

So, all in all, $550. add in consumables and new misc parts

$650 max.

I've sold 2 complete swaps (one needed a shifter rebuild) for $500/ea, including all hardware, serviceable clutch setups, etc.

Otherwise most people would throw in a used trans, so prob $1000-1500. Not too many people are interested in dumping rebuild $$ into a car of this age.
