Style 161 on E46 Sedan Stock

Hi guys,

I'm a new member but have been using the forum for years for any DIY work on my E46. However, I couldn't find an answer to the question in regards to E90 style 161 wheels fitment. I found similar posts on similar E90 wheels, mostly the 18inch 189, etc...but even those showed conflicting answers.

I have some 161 staggered rims (8 ET34 front & 8.5 ET37 rear) laying in my garage from my wife's previous E90 with no tires on them. I saw some cars with E90 wheels on E46 despite the different offset. I know the front wheels will fit with no issues, but I'm uncertain about the back. Will 255/40r17 fit on Sedan with stock suspension (no fender rolling etc), or will they rub. In case they rub, would 245/40/r17 be the way to go? However I would like to avoid those because they are smaller than the front 225/45r17. I checked different websites, and some say no problem, some say they will rub.

Any help is very appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the same offsets, I'm confident they will fit with the right tire specs. Something to note: my Style 189s with original tires (255/35/18s on the rear, 225/40/18 on the fronts) fit on my e46 with no problem.

Just look on http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/161. there are some pics with e46s on 161s.

Thank you. Greatly appreciated. Yes, Style 189 and Style 161 only differ in diameter, but offset and set up is the same. Thanks for the link. I'll give it a shot and order original tires in 225/45/17 and 255/40/17.

In case somebody is having the same question. Style 161 fits very nicely on E46 Sedan with non-sport stock suspension, however, I put 245/40/17 instead of 255/40/17 in the back and 225/45/17 (stock) in the front. The 255 slightly rubbed on the inner fender lip, this could have been that the specific brand came in wider than other brands or it just doesn't fit without altering the fender. To be safe i decided to go with 245/40/17 instead and couldn't be happier. It fits perfectly and no rubbing at all, even under load.
