the oil you use isn't going to stop a leak. i suggest you get under the car and check to see if you can diagnose where the leak is coming from... oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, etc.... fix it right and continue to use the oil that was recommended for the car

Fix the leak, changing oil might make it worse. There are only a handful of places oil can leak on the E46 and they are all relatively easy to fix (other than the oil pan but those rarely leak).

Reminds me of the old joke

Man Walks into a Doctor and says "Doc, it hurts when I do this" (flexes elbow) and doctor says "then don't do that"

Check this spot.

You'll need a flashlight to peak past the air box, unless you remove it like in this photo.if you see oil then most likely have an oil filter housing gasket leak, a very common e46 problem. There are very good DIYs available for this here at e46 and on YouTube. I do not suggest an oil additive like Lucas to stop it from leaking. You will only slowly kill your engine, and may not even fix the leak.

First you have to determine what kind of oil is leaking, engine, power steering or transmission. I bought mine with an oil leak noted by the seller, I figured it would be the oil filter housing gasket, a relatively easy fix, but it hasn't lost any oil in 7000 miles and it's actually a minor power steering leak. One of these days I'll replace the hoses.
