My Ride: E90 and e46
Balidawg just upgraded my DME remotely for my e46 ZHP convertible. What a blessing he is for this community - he guided me throughout the process and explained every step that he was doing. Had a great life conversation with him also!

My car is like a new animal now. I was going crazy trying to figure out the 2800 stutter issue I was having in my car and the upgrade completely fixed it. My car is so much more smoother and responsive now.

Thanks so much for all your help and contribution to the community! Appreciate the time you spent out of your weekend to help a fellow Bmw enthusiast out.

My original plan was to fix the sensors and take the car back to him for the reprogramming, but now coming across this thread I think there may be another option! If this is something you can do I would be very interested in driving up or doing it remotely. Let me know if this is something you could do.
It's really cool that you do this for the community. People like you are what make this forum so great!
Somehow I missed your post, sorry for late reply.

I simply update the software on the DME to the latest BMW factory version. I donít do diagnostics or repair. For that you should get a wireless OBD interface and OBD Fusion app. This thread has the details.

I highly recommend the obd fusion app. It single handedly helped me discover why my car would go into limp mode. After logging tons of data, and sharing with forum members, it lead me down a path of a clogged catalytic converter. Happy to report the car now has had the cats replaced and the car is running better than ever.

BaliDawg helped me last night check my DME and flash my EGS. Super patient and knowledgeable guy, I didn't have the tools properly setup on my laptop so he went ahead and spent the time to transfer the correct tools with the latest configuration.

Although my DME was already the latest, he helped me flash my EGS which had the factory original on it. The difference with the new software is night and day! No more hesitation and jerky shifts especially at higher RPM! Much smarter gear management and way smoother ride!

Feels like a whole new transmission! His attention to detail while making sure everything goes smoothly is something to be appreciated. A real enthusiast!

Thanks again BaliDawg!

@BaliDawg graciously performed an update on my DME today (EGS was already on latest version). Doing that along with the adaptation reset made a huge difference in the power, it felt like I had some kind of sports options installed

I took it for a test drive and pulling onto the highway I went from 20km/h up to 90km/h in one smooth fast acceleration. Didn't even feel like it had to change any gears it was that smooth. Power all the way

Props to @Balidawg for updating my DME from its original software. I was also late to our scheduled time and he was extremely patient about it!

My old laptop running INPA 5.0.2 bit the dust, so initially I only requested the software to not use up anyone's spare time. Scott graciously still offered to not only setup the software, but also to perform the DME update immediately after. Both software and DME update were done in less than 40 minutes remotely via TeamViewer. During the entire process he let me know exactly what he was doing and why. Love the education part! While waiting for the update, he proceeded to give me some great tips on upcoming maintenance work I need to perform.

If you still have an E46 that needs an update, don't hesitate to reach out to him.

Hi spacemaster,

Best username ever!!!

DME July 28, 2000 7501838
EGS April 19, 2000 1423680

Yeah, your car still has the original software in both DME and EGS, so we should update it.

PM me with your email address and Iíll share download links for the software. Itís just easier for me to install it and do the updates remotely using TeamViewer. Have updated several mates down under this way.
My set up has everything preconfigured, the latest daten files imported, etc.

Hi BaliDwag,

I have a question, last time I updated it my DME it seams I put my VIN wrong (missed last character), and now when I open Renovelo it sees the wrong VIN (wrong last 7 digits)!!

Is there is a way to fix this without re-flashing?

Thanks

You donít need to enter the VIN on a simple update. See the steps here.
https://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpo...0&postcount=94

If you enter the correct VIN and re-flash it should be fine. You can update a total of 14 times with UIF writes enabled.

There might be a way to just update the VIN, but I donít know.

Will this also include flashing tunes using ByteTuner?

Thanks,

Thanks to BaliDawg I have updated the DME firmware on my 325XiT today. It had the original 7516444 from factory (September 2001) and I have updated it to the latest 7564474. All went smoothly and the car started the first time after the update. I cleared the adaptations before and after (paranoia) the update.

When it started there was a significant drop of the rpm every time when I press the accelerator before it revs up. It gradually disappeared after I pressed the pedal 20-30 times. I cleared the adaptations once again after that and didn't see this thing again, I hope to never see it again

The car runs well, I cannot feel a lot of difference overall (maybe it's just me) but it seems to have fixed a problem which I had - acceleration after the accelerator pedal is released (https://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1253167). And I'm pretty happy because of that

While preparing to do the update I have read this whole thread. I think that this explanation (about how to find the latest firmware version from the one you have) from post #144 is pretty valuable and deserves a place (or link) in the first post.

Well done! Be sure to clear any error codes on all the modules connected to the CAN bus: DME, EGS, ABS, IKE. They often post CAN timeout error codes while a module is updating.

Just updated post #1 with your suggestion. Thanks!

UIF writes are the automatic recording of information about each flash: the date, mileage, version, etc. You can only flash a limited number of times (I think 14) with UIF writes enabled. With it disabled, there is no limit and the date, mileage, version, etc., is not stored while flashing.

I've never used ByteTuner, so cannot answer that. I only update with factory BMW flash files and never use aftermarket or tuner software.
