Unable to get backup camera working on Eonon GA9350B

I recently installed a Eonon GA9350B into my M3. Overall it's been a great addition! For the life of me, I can not get the rear camera to do anything though.

Its just a generic camera they included with the purchase. It has an RCA and trigger wire on one end and power/ground on the other. The trigger wire is running behind the glove box where I confirmed its seeing power when the car is in reverse. The power/ground is running to the reverse lights. I also confirmed a good connection there.

When the car is in reverse nothing happens. It doesn't even change off the home screen. I checked that the RCA was plugged in three times before putting the unit in the dash. That's literally the only thing I haven't ripped back out to check.

Thoughts?

Did you plug in the RCA to the "Rear Cam" instead of to the 'video' in? It needs to be plugged in to number 16, not 15:

My unit that I just installed will go into back camera mode when the car enters reverse (notified by the CAN bus) and I haven't even installed a backup camera yet (it's just black). Is the red signal wire for signaling the camera, or for hooking into the head unit and signaling it to display the reverse cam (which wouldn't be necessary in this case as it is signaled by the CAN bus directly)?

I might try disconnecting the signal wire entirely, and seeing if there's some setting that needs to be enabled for the reverse camera feed to display.

Interesting. Mine never does anything when put in reverse. Eonon asked me to go into the settings, punch in a code and set the CAN settings to "BMW". That did nothing but make my streering wheel controls stop working!

You're right, that red wire sounds redundant. It should be signaled by the CAN bus directly. I think I saw a post elsewhere that said they didn't even need to hook up the red wire. That's how I originally wired it with the same results.

Now they are telling me;

" If you still can't cut into the reverse mode, please connect the red trigger line on the lens to the reverse control line on the power line of the machine (this line indicated in the drawing) "

Negative. In order to try what they described above, I need to pull the unit back out and connect the brown wire (on the harness going to the unit) to the reverse lamp power. The last two things they suggested did nothing so I'm not in a huge hurry to rip it back out again. If yours is still out, it would be easy to try, I suppose.

Did they have you mess with the CAN settings?

You will be happy to know that running the wire how they said panned out works great I have a red wire coming off of each side of my av cable used one side straight to the rev light and the other side to the brown wire number 6 I believe. Good Luck hope everything pans out. Also FYI I had the same prob when switching the CAN to BMW no steering wheel controls changed it back and still work good. GL

Success...mostly. Unfortunately the way I mounted the camera makes the picture upside down! I thought there might be an easy way to flip the image in the menus, but so far no luck. I really like the way it's mounted too
