I'm sort of amazed that there are still people who don't know this.

But I guess I shouldn't be.

I think you can get a Nexus 5X for $199. At that price it's actually a pretty good deal lol.

I feel the same way. Whoever thought of that subsidy sales model was a marketing genius.

My plan is 80/month for my wife, and I. Unlimited everything. I go to Best Buy, and purchase a new Galaxy for $199 and BB gives me a $100 gift card that I can use on that purchase, so the phone ends up being $100. Why the fvck would I spend $600 on a phone?

That's with a two year contract only. Best Buy is not taking a $400 hit on a phone. You are definitely paying for your phone whether you want to admit it or not. Do you think you just get a free phone? Surely you're old enough to know that nothing is free.

We pay $35/mo less than with the 2yr contract prices since we buy our phones outright. $35*24=$840 so that is where the cost of your phone is stored.

Interesting. I doubt they mention HTC even one time at the announcement. They're going all in as an OEM now.

If you're making monthly payments for your phone, you lost. It's always cheaper to buy the phone out-right, but dropping $600+ for a phone is a lot. I need a new phone and will get one before the years end. I'm curious about this Pixel though. Waiting for reviews.

Most of the time, if not all the time, they are offering 0% interest financing, so it isn't any more expensive (unless there's a deal going on elsewhere).

I still wouldn't buy from a carrier though. Carrier phones tend to be locked and come with more bloatware.

I'll be surprised if the Pixel that Verizon sells (if they do) is the exact same as the one sold from the Google Store.

seems green mentioned he's buying through bestbuy

So ya he's not getting a phone for $100/200.....he's subsidizing the phone.

But you are correct.....go through google and finance for 0% win

Or just save up for a couple of months, it's $600, not 6k.

I'd like to switch back to Android with a Nexus...err...Pixel, heck, HTC is even my favorite manufacturer. I just can't get over app quality or device speed, which are consistently better on iPhone. Even Google apps work better on iPhone.

I rarely notice an app quality difference between my Nexus phone and iPad. Hangouts is the only one I can think of now that's noticeably better on iOS, out of the ones I use. In fact, with the whole material design thing going on, a lot of apps actually seem better on Android, or better looking at least. Just like on iOS, you have to sift through the junk and get the good ones.

Device speed is a problem though. IMO, the nexus phones have gotten slower since the Nexus 5. The 6P may match or sightly surpass, but overall things aren't great. I'm hoping the Pixel ships with the new snapdragon 821 and is a beast.

After looking at the current plans available I understand what you're saying, and how it would be cheaper to purchase the phone, and run without a contract.

But I think I've been on this plan for so long they don't offer it anymore, and even without a contract I cannot find a cheaper plan.

Again, I have no issues with the 6P in terms of speed and responsiveness. It doesn't have the greatest benchmarks and such but it's still snappy and responsive to inputs. I don't plan on upgrading at all this year, no need to do it at all.

If one wants a good android phone for cheap, I'd recommend the 6P as it's inexpensive and still on the same level as many flagship devices out there.

Is the 7p going to be a bargain like the other 7 tablets?

After reading the info on the Google home, I'm leaning with going to echo. The fact that nest support is a future activity is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. We'll see what the official announcement is.
