hyperextended knee

Ever had this? Did it yesterday when I fell off my mountain bike and my leg/knee caught my fall. Got right back on the bike and continued to ride even though the other leg/foot was doing all the work. I can slowly walk on it but if I turn it the wrong way .
There is swelling at the top of the knee but no bruising. Been taking Ibuprofen and using flexall 454 and staying off it. How long could this tale to heal?

I guess no one on this forum has ever had this injury, anyway, first couple of days I used a granny stroller to stay off of the leg, then progressed to a tall walking stick and then started using that leg very lightly. As of today the swelling/pain is gone but I still have some fluid under the skin around the knee cap. This makes it difficult to bend the leg at the knee. Oh yea, I never went to the doctor.
Exercising the leg/knee is apparently helping since I feel more flexibility afterwards. Hoping the fluid is gone by next week this time. I guess a doctor would have extracted the fluid using a syringe but I think it will dissipate on it's on.
Walking much better now.

UPDATE
Complete recovery, If I had to give anyone advice with respect to such an injury I would say DON'T GO TO THE DOCTOR.....at least not right off.
Wait for a few days and see how your knee feels. If you are sitting still and you feel NO pain then give yourself a week to see how it go's but if you are sitting still and you feel pain, then I would go have it checked out.
The only time I had pain was when I was moving. There is more to the story because I did stretching/exercises, not certain if it helped or not.
