no problemo.

ONLY USE a gel type lube.

DO NOT use a liquid lube like wd40.

Yup. However removal of the Moonroof (glass part of the Sunroof) is ridiculously easy. It takes about 2 minutes. Literally 2 minutes.

I defer to your awesomeness. Thanks, I needed to know that.

Delmarco, I've also changed all my clips to find out that the sliding head was also mangled but I was thinking about it and decided that I would try to make a sliding head of rubber and cut a slice in the rubber to slide it into the metal piece that holds the original plastic sliding head. I just installed the clips on Friday and was going to attempt to make the rubber piece today. I'll report back on what my outcome is.

IMPORTANT POINTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE CLIPS

There are two sizes of the clips that go on the driver side of the inside shade. The difference in the two clips is the spacing between the mounting holes. The slides themselves are the same. but the metal tab with the mounting holes are different sizes. You need the correct size according to the Production Date of your car.

Don't ask how I know this.

The Passenger Side clips can fall off and rest inside the roof, along the track. I've done this job on three different cars, and the passenger side clips were usually serviceable after I found them using a flashlight and a coathanger to pull them out. I think I replaced one of them on the three roofs I have worked on.

The repair strategy wouuld be to take the roof apart and then go buy the parts you need, unless you are willing to buy extra parts and then return the parts you don't use. You can't tell before hand if you need one or both of the driver side clips, or what size, and you also won't know if you need the passenger side clips or not.

One should not use the words "lube" and "WD40" in the same sentence.

WD40 is good AT BEST to free sticky mechanisms, but it has to be completely removed from whatever you put it on because it will dry and turn to goo that just makes the mechanism sticky again.

Great guide. Can I just add that mine is now fixed BUT my driver is totally screwed. It wont move at all (back or forward with the roof). To get around this issue I simply pushed it all the way back into the roof cavity along its guide. This makes the sunshade basically a manual slider, and it works puurrrfectly!

GREAT DIY!

I used this and found out my driver was all sorts of F'd like yours was. I bent it down and have a temp fix. Luckily my clips were all in decent enough condition to leave in there. What a Sh*t design! Way to go BMW lol.

Anyway, it works but kinda sorta. I'm tempted to just destroy and cut off the driver head so my shade becomes manual. I use it that way anyway! Thanks again.

Thanks...just priced them out & my Atlanta dealer has them at $15 per pair. Cheaper than what I thought.
