Bluetooth Mic Location

This weekend I will be installing and Alpine ILX-W650 in my newly acquired 01 E46. Ive searched the forums and YouTube and havent found much in the way of mic placement. Where did you guys put your BT mic when installing and aftermarket head unit?

Thanks

Thanks. I need to see if I have the grille like what he has opposite the sunroof controls. I have a super base model and no sunroof. Just bought it last weekend so not as familiar with it yet.

I put my mic in this position from the video and people had the hardest time hearing me. I use the built in mic on the headunit and it's slightly better. This has been a constant issue for me since getting my eonon headunit

I considered getting that brand for the built in mic but I really like the Alpine unit i bought and Ive had alpines for years with no issue.

If I Had to do it again id go with the xtrons unit which seems to have better specs than the eonon. I don't have much experience with alpine, I'm sure it's great

I bought a good quality lapel mic and stuck it to the top of the steering column. Works well.

I finally did my install today. I ended up pulling the gauge cluster out and placing the mic on the bottom right. I'll post a pic shortly. Of course my dumb ass forgot to hook up the parking brake wire so I can't change any settings on the headunit. At least it is easy to take apart.

How did you route it there?

There are 2 torx screws at the top of the cluster. Take them out and pull the cluster out. There is direct access from behind the cluster to the stereo area. Its easy to reach your hand through and pass the mic to yourself.

Ah I never realized access was the easy from the instrument cluster. I may have to give that a try
