Quick opinion, not e46 related..

Hey guys,

After wanting one for ages, decided to say f*ck it, and buy myself a 911.
It's a 997.1 C2S, triple black, 45K miles, with PCCB. Love everything about the car, but am not entirely sold on the yellow strip that is painted around the wheels. (It's not rim tape, as I originally expected)

I'm hesitant to get them refinished, as the original owner had them painted body colour at the factory per the build sheet, assuming he had the yellow strip painted locally after.

Thoughts? Do I learn to live with and love the yellow, or does it look really tacky?

enjoy the new car!

not my cup of tea. sanded down + polished or matched would be better imo.

I'm not a fan, but I wouldn't say they're "tacky." It looks like the color matches up nicely with the brakes.

Maybe just drive it for a while and if the yellow continues to bug you then have them refinished. Enjoy! It looks like a beautiful car.

Looks like an Uber mobile. Ditch that and get a Buick Grand National!

I bet that thing can't even hang with a 323i in the twisties.

That looks *much* nicer to me, thanks for that.

Apparently it does fine, right up until you lift off mid-turn, and then you're suddenly facing the other way.

That's what happens when you hang a huge chunk of metal off the ass end of any car.

Nice pick up, congrats! I'd go with the sand/polish rim route. The yellow looks silly to me for a sleek car like this.

Pics of interior?

Thanks, I agree. The yellow looks a bit too teenage boy racer, with Type-R stickers all over it to me.

I'll take some pics, and post a bit later.

It's your run of the mill 997.1 with Sport Chrono, Adaptive sport seats, etc., but damn is it fun to drive. It drives like a go-kart, is loud, sh*t on gas, (the Sport Chrono switched to Sport basically makes it undriveable on my local city streets) and harder than my A6 to get in and out of, but I love every minute of it.

Also, the PCCB brakes are borderline ridiculous. I imagine the feeling is much like being hauled in by an arrestor cable on an aircraft carrier. Serious, serious overkill for street duty- especially once they have some heat in them.

It says you joined E46Fanatics back in 2008, which is before my time. Are you sure you know what you're talking about? The E46 323i is the greatest car of all time. It can beat 370Z's in a straight line and out-handle F1 cars.

SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!

Let's not get crazy here. I never said it would beat the 323i. That's just crazy talk. I said "it does fine" - meaning it wouldn't be too embarrasing.

That looks awful. Get new wheels and run this as a winter set.

Anything specific?- here are a handful of basic shots. The PCM/Nav unit is being yanked. I've got an Alpine Android Auto/Carplay unit coming in, so I can use Waze and have BT connectivity.

The real first world problem is that this thing doesn't have BT, a heated steering wheel, or blind spot monitors. I have to turn my head like a caveman to check manually.

I'm probably going to do what Stankia suggested, plastidip these bitches, and run them as a winter set. I'll pick up something a bit different as summer wheels.

If I go aftermarket, I'll probably go with something like this..

or,

The 997.2 stock wheels are nice, too:

Thanks, but have never been a fan of the LMs. I get that they're light, and great wheels, just not for me.

I love them. Such a classic looking wheel. I read your thread and after clicking out those wheels were the next post down lol.

Maybe the porsche forums have some oem wheels for sale

Yep, I'd plastidip for now to cover up the stripe and grab a set of replacement wheels of some sort. Lots of great OEM options that I'm sure owners dump for relatively cheap compared to aftermarket options.
