Convertible hard top preparation kit

Does anyone know where I can get the mounting kit for the convertible hardtop? It seems it was discontinued by BMW NA and I can't find it anywhere. I already have a top I just cannot find the rear (vehicle side) mounts/associated wiring.

They aren't available. I've ordered the kit 4 times in the last month. Every order was cancelled the next day.

And of course, sellers with Hard Tops didn't remove the hardware when they sold the car. I see a few Hard Tops still for sale, ones I looked over, more than a year ago, without the hardware.

Someone is selling the kit in the classified section, either interior parts or exterior parts, can't remember but please look there.

I search weekly. You have to commit to buying a kit before you can even consider buying a removable Hard Top.

Stumpman24:

As many of us E46 convertible owners, I too was seeking to locate the hardtop installation kit. After about a week of calling around, I was able to locate a dealer that located the OEM kit and mailed it to me.

Recommend that you contact Fabian with Image Auto Sales @ 801.565.8819. The business is located in West Jordan, Utah.

(Bragging) I didn't have to buy a hardtop prep kit, as, for some reason, my 325ci already had this installed.

CraigsList: When I found a mint (chrome-drip rails-correct vs black M3 drip) for a mere $800 a few years back ( !!) only 30 mins from my home, all's I did was hook it up....& it lighted up/etc. when I put my "new" acquisition on. I guess my cabrio, for some reason, already had this ready-to-go from the factory.

Approximately 800 E46 Cabriolet's were delivered to the Canadian market with the Hardtop Prep Kit installed but without the Hardtop. My speculation is that BMW had a surplus of Hardtops and determined the most likely place they could sell them was a colder climate, such as Canada. Of course, if you aren't the original owner, a PO could have had a Hardtop at some point. You can enter your VIN HERE and see it your came car came prepped or with an actual Hardtop. I think the Option Code for prepped only is 380 and the code for a factory delivered car with a Hardtop was 98x something.

I have a print-out already....thx for telling/reminding to look at that. (found it tucked away in my sales brochure).

Yes...I have the 380 prep kit, then underneath, next line, is 388 softtop black, then 399 softtop operation fully automatic. Not sure whom I got this from, but it was from a member here on this website a few trs back,...maybe you? I was emailed it, and was told my 325ci was a very very well-optioned 325....only thing didn't have was the ACTUAL hardtop upon sale, and do not have the P/MEMORY seats. Thx!
