M54 Engine Rebuild

Hi everyone, next summer I plan on rebuilding my 2.5L M54 engine. While I rebuild the engine, what parts are worth upgrading for better power and performance? Also what are weak parts of the engine that would be necessary to strengthen if I were to install forced induction later on down the road? Any information helps, thanks!

Oil pump nut + oil chain tensioner. Best thing for most power would be M54B30 swap + forced induction. The stock engine is good for about 400-600hp. Use the newer style oil control rings so it doesn't burn oil

Honestly a rebuild on a 2.5L is a waste of money. Used m54b30ís are all over the internet for $600-$800. Instant 40hp gain.

This.
No point in rebuilding a B25.

You can pick up a complete M54B30, or just the rotating assembly.

Things which should %100 be done.
Timesert head bolt holes.
Oil pump chain tensioner.
Oil pump nut lock (wire lock, weld, aftermarket etc)

Upgrades which could be done during the rebuild:
Camshafts
Slight cleaning up of head intake and exhaust ports.
Drill and tap head to use all 24 exhaust header bolts.

My engine had all 24 threaded holes. Same with my friend's M52TUB28

It seems to be hit or miss. The last m54b30 I pulled apart was fully drilled and tapped. My current B30 project was not.
(2002 ms43 b30 drilled, 2004 ms45.1 b30 not drilled)
