Engine swap

Hi everyone! New here had a few question regarding my bmw. I just recently snagged the engine out of my 530I(3.0L I6) and put it into my 325I, kept the trans the same as well as my welded diff. According to google theres quite of a power difference between the E46 and E39 do you guys think Ill be able to tell?

You should notice a difference the E39 530i and E46 330i share the same engine M54B30 (3.0L), and your 325 had a M54B25 (2.5L) so you have bigger displacement and about 30-40 extra HP.

The engine in the E39 530i and E46 330i is the same. Likewise for the 525i and 325i, same engine.
Putting the 3.0L into a 325 gives you not only +40 HP, but more torque from the higher gear ratios in the diff and transmission.

The extra 40 hp comes at 6,000 rpms. If you drive up there you might feel it. At 4,000 rpms the hp difference is closer to 20-25 hp, so you may or may not feel that.

There are meaningful torque differences - approx 60 NM (Ft-lb?) at 3500 rpms...that might be noticeable.

You're doing this swap, so let us know.

Well the thing with it is, Ive owned the car for a year and never really drove it because I found out the motor was blown after I bought it. In other words Ive never really felt the power it has

The extra twist down low of the B30 is noticeable over the B25, which you really have to rev to get the car moving.

The new M54B30 will definitely feel stronger than a non-functional M54b25... I can guarantee that.

When I did the 3.0 swap on my 323 the difference in high end power was really nice, but the added low end torque was huge.

A proper tune makes a big difference too.

Good luck with finishing the project
