ATF Cooler?

Thinking about getting a ATF Cooler to prolong the life of my step tranny.

Can anyone recommend one? How hard would the install be??

Moved to FI? Is an ATF cooler something only boosted e46ers are concerned about? Maybe getting one for myself (no boost) is overkill?

i would guess its gonna be overkill unless you are tryin to push your tranny

never even heard of an automatic transmission fluid cooler before, which is what i assume youre talking about?

Your Steptronic has one already, so are you looking to make it bigger?

Try talking to Mr.Paddleshift (Vince?) on here as he's successfully added another apparently fully functional tranny cooler to his car for track conditions.

I sure did. I call it the secondary cooler since the Steptronic already has a liquid-2-liquid cooler. Still working on putting together a kit.

I recently upgraded mine to a bigger sized one. Pretty straightforward job. Good for protection on track days...

Here are a few pics of the process:

My old cooler setup

New ATF cooler in the box

Good airflow through the cooler

Comparison between old and new ATF coolers

Figuring out where to mount it

Looks good right here

Drilling mounting points

Happy mechanic

Tadah!

can a intercooler be done the same way with a custom kit.
I have a 2004 530i E60 3.0 with a six speed manual.
Waiting on the TS2 kit since i have a M54 motor. But would like to do a intercooler in advance using stock setup. Is this possible? Any advise please.
