SMG reset do it!!

A reminder was given from a forum member on another site who reminded all SMG owners to reset their SMG settings and nearly all members with SMG on that thread noticed the juddering you get moving off in 1st gear disappeared.

Basically the recaliberation of the clutch change resets and bites as it was programmed when Your car was first purchased.

The manual states to do this after every tyre change. But it's part of maintaining your SMG, so here's my reminder...

When I tried it the bite was noticeably better and the juddering did go!

Drive to approx 30/40mph, stick her into neutral when the screen shows gear '0' hold both paddles together for 3-5 secs. Stick her back in to gear and your SMG will be reset.

Then give her a go and see what I mean about biting the clutch perfectly with no judder throughout. The car will then recognise your driving style and adjust to you accordingly, until you reset again...

Doing a reset every week is just the butt dyno effect and has a higher chance of performing more wear on your clutch and SMG parts.

Just keep driving your car normally. It will continously adjust on its own like it is supposed to. If you needed to do this often, I doubt BMW would design it so you have to unplug your battery or drive 30-40mph to reset it. They would have made it a $150 dealer-only feature.

Revive the old post...did you notice a difference?

Also - after you hold the paddles for 3-5 secs...do you get a message or some sort of signal that the reset took?

Ok - I took the ///M out for a spanking! Did the SMG reset - I was skeptical hence why I am doing it only now.

Wow! What a difference. 1st to 2nd is much smoother. Going through the gears feels about the same. 1st to 2nd - significant difference!!

As the title says - do it!!

You guys need to get the SMG Tuning from Frank Smith at Tuning Techs. They charge $189 and its a completely different car! Highly recommended.

The shifts are faster and firmer with rev matched down shifts.

Read this thread. There's several videos showing what these tunes do.

Good SMG info.

Lets start with maintenance:
-What do you do to maintain your smg2? I assume most will answer nothing, even though they want to say otherwise
The truth is there is very little to maintain although the few things that do need attention most often does not get the attention it should.

1. Have you changed your SMG fluid? Why not?
-make a habit of turkey basting fluid in the smg reservoir. Fresh additives are needed to protect. Simple as that.

2. Have you replaced the compression springs? Were they broken or just worn out?

3. How often do you run an SMG adaptation with INPA or GT1? (this is NOT the paddle soft reset)
-this is needed to keep your transmission calibrated to function properly. I suggest doing it yearly if not every six months.
